On The Watch “It’s All About Gervonta Davis vs Hector Luis Garcia”

WBA “Regular” Lightweight Challenge

Last night’s Showtime PPV/PBC Main Event between WBA “Regular” Lightweight Champion Gervonta Davis (28-0, 26 Kos) and Super Featherweight Champion Hector Luis Garcia (16-1, 10 Kos) brought the heat to another sellout crowd of 19,731 at the Capital One Arena where “Tank” made sure the fans in attendance left the arena satisfied.

The bout started out as expected in a strategic fashion where both combatants were working on angling out their respective “game plans”. Garcia proved to be a worthy opponent that kept things very interesting as the rounds progressed.

Both combatants boxed well. Garcia kept his jab working keeping Davis at bay but a jab can only take you so far when you’ve got “Tank” opposite of you. “Tank” did what was expected of him and worked his way in touching Garcia with some heavy fast combinations clearly getting to Garcia as the rounds piled up.

Garcia showed some serious resilience going toe to toe with Davis but “Tank’s” power could only be avoided for so long. Although Garcia kept things exciting, Davis made sure he stayed one step ahead by countering Garcia’s attack with some serious leather with power behind every punch landed.

Gervonta had figured out Garcia by round 8 and in this round “Tank” put it all together and applied just the right amount of pressure with some serious accurate shots from head to body that clearly affected Garcia.

Before the start of round 9, Garcia complained about his vision being blurred and opted not to come off his stool for the beginning of the round and by doing so trusting Gervonta with a TKO.

This was a competitive bout from start to finish. Gervonta had to work for this one and prevailed like the superior boxer that he is and in doing so reattained his WBA “Regular” World Lightweight Title.

With this win now completed the next task at hand is a scheduled showdown encounter with Ryan Garcia in the upcoming months. Now that’s a very intriguing matchup that will surely have the attention of the boxing community at large.

On The Watch “It’s All About Gervonta Davis vs Yuriorkis Gamboa”

Vacant WBA “regular” Lightweight Title

Last night’s Main Event Showdown at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia between Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22 Kos) and Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3, 18 Kos) was a hell of show. Real Talk!

Gervonta, who usually walks through his opponents was met with a real tough warrior in Gamboa that wasn’t going to lay down without a fight. Real Talk! Gamboa put up a hell of a fight but still got touch at will whenever “Tank” pressed the action.

Gamboa showed heart and bravery in withstanding all those power shots that Davis was hammering on him throughout the rounds. However, in doing so he also gave Davis his toughest fight to date.

As good as “Tank” was doing he was in a real fight last night and definitely had to work to get the job done. Gervonta knocked Gamboa down in round 2, 8 and again in round 12. It’s in that final round that the referee decided to pull the plug after that last knockdown and stopped the fight.

It was a learning experience for Davis this go around. Fatigue settled in, he had to go 12 rounds for the first time in his professional career and this was his first fight at 135 Division. That being said “Tank” still weathered the heat and completed the task at hand with a knockout victory.

With this win Gervonta becomes a two-weight Division Champion by picking up the Vacant WBA “regular” Lightweight Title.

Congratulations Gervonta, now on to the new year 2020.

On The Watch “It’s All About Gervonta Davis vs Yuriorkis Gamboa”

Vacant WBA “regular” Lightweight Title

Gervonta “Tank” Davis (22-0, 21 Kos) will be moving up a Division and attempting to become a two weight Division Champion by challenging Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-2, 18 Kos) for the vacant WBA “regular” Lightweight Title on Saturday December 28, 2019 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Despite Gamboa being much older than Gervonta, I’m anticipating this bout to be “Blazin Hot” when these two tough combatants meet inside that squared circle. Gamboa has been pushing an impressive 4- fight winning streak as of late and looking better and better every time out. Gamboa ain’t no walk in the park. He is a 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist and a Three-Time World Champion at Featherweight, Junior Lightweight and at Lightweight. He’s a proven warrior attempting to get back at the top one more time.

That being said, Gervonta is a young undefeated star in the making, a Two-Time World Champion ready to conquer another Division. Tank is that Dude that people can’t sleep on. He has an abundance of skill sets that have yet to be seen inside the squared circle because he hasn’t been tested. Since his power has always been the equalizer, considering his high knockout ratio, but I’m hoping that Gamboa can bring that next unseen level out of him to the point where we can really appreciate a tough, competitive, back and forth type bout.

Tune in live on SHOWTIME Saturday night December 28, 2019 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia and witness an exciting year-end event.

On The Watch “It’s All About Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner”

WBA Welterweight Challenge

Last night, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Manny Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 Kos) proved to the naysayers that turning 40 is the new 30 the way he looked inside that squared circle dismantling the much younger Adrien Broner (33-4-1, 24 Kos) to retain his WBA “regular” Welterweight Title.

This bout was a beautiful display by Pacquiao but an embarrassing and disappointing one by Broner. Real Talk! Once again Broner failed to let his hands go or assert himself inside that squared circle. I’m not sure what “game plan” his corner had for him but in watching that fight I personally think Broner left the “game plan” back in the change room when the bout started. Real Talk! Broner did nothing but try to survive which was very hard to watch. All that trash talking and nothing to back it up. Broner showed absolutely no urgency throughout the entire bout and for that it cost him dearly.

As for Pacquiao, “the Professor” for the night, clearly schooled “the student” Broner with his aggression and quickness round by round. Pacquiao stuck to the “game plan” and administered a stiff and effective jab all night. There was absolutely no doubt that Pacquiao was the stronger, busier fighter landing the heavier shots when it counted.

In the end, the three Judges scored it 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112 for Paquiao. Nuff said!

Pacquiao still got the “juice” and is willing to keep going for as long as his body will allow him to. That being said, the Welterweight Division has been put on notice that the “Pacman” is out here looking for that smoke.

Who’s next?

On The Watch “It’s All About Marcus Browne vs Badou Jack”

WBC Light Heavyweight Eliminator and WBA Interim Light Heavyweight Title

In the co-feature, last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Marcus Browne (23-0, 16 Kos) asserted himself early in his bout against Badou Jack (22-2-3, 13 Kos) and never looked back. Real Talk!

Browne executed the “game plan” at hand perfectly to a “T” and boxed beautifully inside that squared circle. Browne showed to be ready and on point and didn’t miss a beat as the rounds wore on. Badou had no answers to Browne’s slick movements and it cost him early big time.

Clearly behind by the seventh round, Badou suffered a nasty gash in the middle of his forehead on an accidental head clash that had him looking like a warrior from Vikings – blood everywhere. Real Talk! This unexpected accident didn’t help Badou at all but it did make it harder for him to see his opponent.

That being said Browne stuck to the task at hand and continued to batter his wounded warrior all the way to the 12th round. I tip my “B” hat to Badou for withstanding the onslaught while being blinded by his own blood. Dude is a serious warrior hands down.

With this impressive and convincing win over an established highly ranked adversary, Browne has truly showed that he belongs among the top Light Heavyweight in the Division.

Browne now has options in front of him after winning the WBC Light Heavyweight Eliminator and picking up the WBA Interim Light Heavyweight Title.

Congratulations Marcus on your latest accomplishments. Your future is looking brighter by the day, keep it up.

On The Watch “It’s All About Adonis Stevenson vs Oleksandr Gvozdyk”

WBC Light Heavyweight Championship

Tonight, at the Videotron Center in Quebec City, our own Canadian and longest-reigning Lineal WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (29-2-1, 24 Kos) lost his WBC Title by a devastating knockout in the 11th round to Oleksandr Gvozdyk (16-0, 13 Kos).

Adonis was holding his own out there and winning on two Judges cards but Gvozdyk’s constant but strategic movement was a major key to offsetting Adonis’ offence.

To me, Adonis looked tired early and it showed round by round. He was nailing Gvozdyk with some heavy shots but was unable to put him away. Gvozdyk’s corner came up with a great game plan that he executed perfectly. Gvozdyk was patient and smart enough to last the needed rounds to administer a demoralizing combination knockout that ended Adonis’ reign at the top.

It was a good performance by Gvozdyk. He saw a tired looking Adonis fading in the championship rounds and took advantage of the situation as a challenger should.

Congratulations to the New WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk, it’s a win well deserved.

Welcome to the Winners’ Circle.

On The Watch “It’s All About Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack”

WBC Light Heavyweight Championship

Last night at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, the lucky fans in attendance witnessed a war between Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (29-1-1, 24 Kos) and Badou Jack “The Ripper” (22-1-3, 13 Kos) inside that squared circle. Real Talk!

Throughout a heavy, action-packed, punishing and entertaining bout, our Canadian Champion Adonis retained his WBC Light Heavyweight Belt with the three Judges scoring it a majority draw.

Listen, I gotta tip my “B” hat to Badou Jack for going 12 hard-hitting rounds with the Champ. Real Talk! Badou is a serious threat to anybody inside that squared circle in the Light Heavyweight Division. It’s not just anyone who can walk into that ring and bang with Adonis and although last night was a draw, he gained more fans and respect from this battle. Real Talk!

That being said, I also gotta tip my “B” hat to the Champ for being able to go hard at war with a tough challenger. This Dude is 40-years old and as yet to be dethroned inside that squared circle. He wasn’t able to lay down that powerful dirty deadly left punch knockout but he did administer some heavy lethal body shots to slow down “The Ripper”, just enough to secure that draw in the Judges’ eyes.

Truth be told, both combatants saw themselves as winners last night, hands down. It was definitely a back and forth affair inside that squared circle.
I personally enjoyed the bout and have no complaints on the result but I would definitely petition for a rematch of the two sooner rather than later.

Until then, congratulation to both warriors for giving us fans a hell of a clash.

On The Watch “It’s All About Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack”

WBC Light heavyweight Championship

Finally, it has officially been announced. One of the most intriguing match ups in the Light Heavyweight Division between Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (29-1, 24 Kos) and Badou Jack “The Ripper” (22-1,2, 13 Kos) is set to take place Saturday night May 19, 2018 live on SHOWTIME from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto rather than the original location previously planned for Montreal’s Bell Centre.

The WBC and Lineal Light Heavyweight Champion Adonis Stevenson will be making his 9th defense against probably his toughest task to date in Badou Jack, a former WBC Super Middleweight Champion who moved up a weight class to become WBA Light Heavyweight Champion but to later relinquish his title to hunt down Adonis’ prized possession of the WBC Belt.

A lot has been said about Stevenson’s previous opponents to date but this time around peeps are calling Badou Jack a high risk. I simply see it as the best fighting the best. Adonis is not new to this level of a challenge. Dude is the longest reigning Light Heavyweight World Champion for a reason; he knows his way pretty well inside that square circle and carries around a mean and well-known equalizer in the form of his left hand.

As for Badou Jack, this is an incredible opportunity for him to become a three-time World Champion and a chance at dethroning the Champ. He has faced every tough challenge head on to date and a win here would definitely raise his profile and income to the next level. His confidence is at an all-time high and he might carry the skills and the attributes to give Adonis a run for his money, but will he be able to execute the game plan come fight night?

The haters in the boxing community want to see Adonis take an “L” but Real Talk all bullsh*t aside Adonis is hands down one of the best in the Division and a dangerous Champion who knows too well how to finish a fight.

I anticipate nuff action from both fighters come fight night. The Light Heavyweight Division is about to get “shook”. Will “Superman” prevail or will the “Ripper” put him to rest.

Tune in live on SHOWTIME Saturday night May 19, 2018.

On The Watch “It’s All About Errol Spence Jr. vs Lamont Peterson”

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING

IBF Welterweight Championship

Last night, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Errol Spence Jr. (23-0, 20 Kos) successfully retained his IBF Welterweight Belt with a one-sided beat down TKO win over Lamont Peterson (35-4-1, 17 Kos). Lamont’s corner pulled the plug before the start of the eight round. REAL TALK!

I expected this bout to be more competitive but EJ was simply too strong and too proficient for Lamont to handle. EJ controlled every round from the jump. He showed incredible poise and clearly executed the game plan at hand to a “T”. Lamont showed up and gave it his best shot but the young gunner’s steady aggressive style was overwhelming Lamont round by round.

Sh*t wasn’t looking good at all for Lamont. To me it looked like EJ was toying with a sparring partner instead of a world-class opponent in Lamont. REAL TALK!

EJ is definitely the “Truth” in that squared circle and he’s only getting better bout-to-bout. He’s a serious problem for the Welterweight Division hands down. That being said I can’t wait to see who’s gonna step up to the plate and attempt at derailing this kid. Good luck to the opposition.

Until then congratulations on your win Champ.

On The Watch “It’s All About Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz”

WBC Heavyweight Title Challenge

It’s Official. The highly anticipated bout between two of the most dangerous Heavyweights in “The Game” is back on. Deontay has blessed Ortiz once again since their previous schedule bout hit a holdup back in November 4, 2017.

Now the due over between Deontay “The Bronz Bomber” Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs) and Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (28-0, 24 Kos) has been set for March 3, 2018 at the Barkley Center in Brooklyn, New York.

In my eyes, this will most likely be Deontay’s stiffest challenge to his career to date. REAL TALK! Wilder has been feeling himself as of late. His last performance against Bermaine Stiverne was devastating and quite the statement to the rest of the Heavyweight Division. Wilder is now claiming to be the No. 1 Heavyweight in “The Game” and is now out to prove it by taking out the undefeated Ortiz in a convincing fashion.

Now let’s be real. Ortiz in my eyes is an establish Heavyweight with the skills to pay the bills. Peeps can talk about his age all they want but can’t ignore what this man brings to that squared circle. He may not hold a title but he is definitely a major player in the Heavyweight Division.

The winner between Wilder and Ortiz will unquestionably change the landscape of the Heavyweight Division. Two very dangerous and heavy fisted Heavyweights are going to collide and take each other heads of with no remorse for one another.

Wilder the WBC Heavyweight Champion is taking a big gamble by accepting this fight has a voluntary defense, but then again, he is out to prove that he’s the real deal. In his mind, he is sure to take out Ortiz by knockout. But Real Talk, this is not rock, paper, scissors, anything can happen in that squared circle. Saturday night March 3, 2018 at the Barkley Center will be “Judgment Night” for two of the baddest Heavyweights in “The Game”.

The question still remains, who will be left standing in that squared circle come fight night?

Who you got?
